For KOD 15 we are going to have the privilege of playing another Steve Tate hand crafted disk. Just like KOD 12, where we did an All-Time team disk based on a 5 consecutive year slice per player, KOD 15 will feature a 3 year slice from just the 1970's.
Steve has been work feverishly hard to perfect the disk. I decided to use the 1971 Card template for the player photos. 1/3 of the players have a 1971 card already, so I will be working on just the guys who didn't play that year, were on a different team or just weren't carded. I worked on the templates last night along with my buddies Mark S and Jeff. I will be posting the newly created or possibly updated cards. (if the original was a Airbrush or BHNH).
I remember the 1971 set like it was yesterday. The black borders would always chip and round. The pictures were typically grainy and out of focus. In later years collectors began to refer to this set as the "Black Beauties" because it was virtually impossible to keep a card in mint condition. Some folks took to using black sharpies to color in the chips in order to "dupe" unsuspecting collectors into thinking a card was mint. There will be no such fake cards in this set :) !
Here is the foundation of what the cards are going to be built on:
